Hey girl! So, let’s talk about money. As an independent hairstylist, I know the hustle is real, and one of the best things I’ve done for myself (and my peace of mind) is tracking my income and expenses with a spreadsheet. It’s going to change the game for you!
I get it – spreadsheets sound super boring, right? You became a hairstylist to be creative, not track numbers in a spreadsheet. But trust me, when you learn how to use a spreadsheet and you start seeing where your money is coming and going, it becomes this powerful tool to help you understand your average expenses, your profit margin, and even your growth over time. Plus, it’s the best way to make sure you’re paying yourself what you deserve!
I created a spreadsheet template that’s super simple to use and customize for any freelance artist, no matter what your hustle looks like – you can find it here inside of my Cash In On Profit course!
Here’s how to use a spreadsheet as a hairstylist:
- Pick a Spreadsheet Template That’s Right for You
There are so many templates out there, but if you want to use mine, it’s designed to keep things easy and organized without all the overwhelming stuff you don’t need. Simple = manageable, and manageable = you actually use it! - Set Up Categories for Income and Expenses
Trust me on this: organizing everything into categories (like different income streams or types of expenses) is a game-changer. I can easily see how much I spend on things like supplies, marketing, or client gifts – and figure out where I might want to cut back or invest more. - Stay Consistent with Updates
I try to update my spreadsheet at least once a week. Yeah, it takes a little discipline, but girl, it’s worth it. When everything’s current, it makes tracking your growth so much easier. - Watch Your Growth Over Time
This is the part I really love. Once I’ve got a few months of data, I can look back and see how my business is growing, where I’m spending too much, or where I’m killing it. It’s like a little pep talk from my past self reminding me that I’m making progress.
So, if you’re feeling a little lost on the money side or just want to feel more in control, I can’t recommend this enough. A spreadsheet can be your new BFF for all things money. Are you ready to get started? Join me inside of my Cash in on Profit course!
